This Friday on April 29th Barcelona welcomes the Palo Market Fest. It’s a market-style music festival that celebrates unique artists, joining together local talent and experimental styles in an interesting old factory setting.
Palo Market Fest is a music, food and design hot spot, hosting local artists, food trucks, musicians and other artisans in a unique and buzzing environment unlike any other festival or market you’ll find in Barcelona.
A unique festival…
There will be three stages of music inside the factory run by Aperol Spritz Club, Corner Music and Moritz Performing Arts Avantgardes. The Aperol Spritz Club and Corner Music will be showcasing everything from Funk and Disco to Reggae to experimental electronic as well as a whole host of incredible singers including Sara Pi and Desiree Diouf.
The Moritz Performing Arts Avantgardes will be showing something a little different, ranging from poetry to swing bands and theatre productions to dance pieces incorporated with art.
As well as the music, there will also be an array of gourmet street food vendors and market stalls offering unique products from local designers. Find everything from vintage clothing to skateboards to hand crafted jewellery. It is the perfect event for those who are wanting something a bit different to your usual commercial music festival – the event is absolutely built around the desire to create something new and fresh in a city practically overflowing in mini music festivals and markets, celebrating unique talent.
If you can’t make it to the Palo Market Fest then don’t worry – the music festival comes from the Palo Alto Market which is a monthly market taking place in the gardens of an old factory in Poblenou on the first weekend of every month. It is basically a smaller version of the Palo Market Fest, and with more focus on the market stalls. It is Barcelona’s most sophisticated market and definitely a less “touristy” way to experience the city. The theme, musicians, artists and food offerings may vary each month to keep maintain the market’s fresh vibe, but the high standards in offerings stay consistent between each edition.
You can buy tickets online for Palo Music Fest for €7 (or €9 on the door). It’s a can’t-miss event for Barcelona’s local hipsters, artists, foodies and tourists alike.
