This month welcomes the 12th Mobile World Congress, The largest gathering for the mobile industry will take place between 27 February and 2 March 2017 where organisations in the industry will be hosting events and exhibits, advertising their products and brands. MWC is THE best place to meet with the entire global community of mobile leaders, innovators, disrupters and thinkers.
The 4 day event will take place in the Mobile World´s capital, Barcelona, at two venues: Fira Gran Via and Fira Montjuïc. With more than 100,000 people attending and over 2,200 organisations exhibiting, expect Barcelona to be a bit busier than normal.
MWC will be hosting a number of exciting events but to break it down for you we´re going to explain a few.
What does the future hold?
4YFN (4 Years From Now) is focused on the future of mobile technology. The home of the growing tech start-up community will this year will see 600 new start-ups exhibiting their new innovations. Innovators will be able to get key guidance from experts in the workshop areas as well have the opportunity to network with the 12,500 attendees at the event and pitch their ideas to the likes of over 700 investors in search of the next big idea.
This year will be 4YFN´s fourth appearance at the MWC and its importance is only getting bigger and bigger as the industry sees new technology being developed at a rate like never before.
YoMo – Youth Mobile Festival
The Youth Mobile Festival is an education experience for young students. With free entrance, this is ultimate learning experience for up to 20,000 students aged 10 to 16. The show floor will be a space dedicated to showcasing the latest in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Design and Mathematics through interactive activities, engaging workshops and even theatre shows.
With over 100 stakeholders across the STEAM sector including educational institutions, professional bodies, R&D laboratories and business and industry leaders, the Youth Mobile Festival is an incomparable opportunity where students will have boundless information at their disposal. In an interactive and exciting environment, students can learn about the subjects, academic pathways and the extensive range of career options available.
A new event at Mobile World Congress 2017, Women4Tech addresses the gender gap in the mobile industry and creates a dialogue on ways to successfully reduce it. The Women4Tech summit will be held on 2nd March, covering topics such as gender equality and career development, mentoring and youth education, women in communication and vertical sectors and will also discuss women as entrepreneurs and innovators. Speakers from likes of Facebook, Google and Worldbank will be examining the topic of integrating gender equality into mainstream work environment and sharing key advice on how to implement strategies that will help increase gender diversity in the mobile and technology industries.
The issue of gender equality and diversity will also be addressed in 4YFN event, with interactive workshops, gender diverse panels and the Hack_D_Gap Global Challenge who´s aim to equalise the gender balance within the industry and global tech start-community. Take part in an interesting and important look into the realities of the issue at hand but also the progress that has been made in reducing the gap and ways that we can continue this progress in order to obtain gender equality in the tech industries.
MMIX – Party and summit
The Mobile Multimedia Innovation eXperience (MMIX) is the official media and entertainment theme at MWC, hosting the official MCW party as well as a summit which will explore in depth the scene of multi-screen media and entertainment and its exploding demand worldwide.
The official MWC party and will take place on the evening of Tuesday, 28 February, at Luz de Gaz, where UK indie rock band Glass Animals will be performing to headline an unmissable evening. The event is free but tickets are very limited. To gain entrance to the official MWC party, make sure you are registered for Mobile World Congress and then head to MMIX page under `Events´ on the official MCW 2017 website where you will find a link to apply for tickets.
On Wednesday, 1 March, the MMIX Summit will take place in Theatre C, NEXTech Hall 8. You won´t want to skip out this compelling and extremely relevant discussion of multi-screen media in the sphere of entertainment as well as a look into the extraordinary speed at which innovation and disruption are taking place, fuelling today´s market.
With exclusive sessions from a number leading sports, media and entertainment stakeholders including EE, YouTube, Live Nation and BT Sport, the Summit will explore live interactive original content in the context of disruptive platforms, strategies, technologies and partnerships.
Global Mobile Awards (Glomo 2017)
The Global Mobile Awards is the industry´s principal platform for recognising innovation and achievement. This year will see the 22nd Glomo Awards present 39 different awards across eight categories including Best Mobile Services, Best Mobile Technology and Government Excellence Award. Seven new awards will be presented this year that recognise the latest trends, technologies and products that the industry has seen.
