Even though Barcelona’s beaches are famous, the city is much more than a seaside resort, and contrary to them, it doesn’t turn into a ghost town in winter. There is still a large range of interesting activities to do, and some of them are available only during december. Moreover, the decrease in the number of tourist gives a stronger feeling of authenticity regarding the city.
December in Barcelona
From November the 27th to January the 10th, like every year, a 1600 square meters ice skating rink will be set up. This event, called Bargelona, used to take place on Plaça de Catalunya, but this year, it is transferred in La Farga, a mall in l’Hospitalet de Llobregat. It includes a rink for children, and sports and events such as shows will be organized.
It will be open all day long from 10 am to 9pm during weekdays and Sundays, and until 11 pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
A smaller ice skating rink will also be available from November the 29th and until January the 6th in Pedralbes shopping center.
Magic Fountain of Montjuïc Christmas show
All year round, water, music and color shows are organized in Montjuïc Magic Fountain. But from December the 5th to January the 3rd, the show will be a celebration of Christmas and Christmas carols will be incorporated. There will be two thirty minutes sessions per day.
Admiring Christmas lights
A competition is organized to choose the lights that will decorate the Plaça Reial. The participants were asked to propose a beautiful, original, and eco-friendly project. Plaça Reial could be the place to be to admire unusual Christmas lights created by craftsmen and students.
Churros con chocolate
There is nothing better than enjoying churros con chocolate to warm up during winter nights. Imagine being under the lights of Plaça Reial, or admiring the Montjuïc Magic Fountain show, after having been ice skating for an hour in l’Hospitalet de Llobregat, and enjoying these delicious pastries dunked in thick chocolate. Happiness in a nutshell!
